Co Curricular Program

CAS fosters holistic development by challenging students to step outside their comfort zones.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core pillar of the IB Diploma Programme and a cornerstone of the UWC educational experience. At UWC Mostar, CAS is not just a requirement—it’s a journey of exploration, reflection, and meaningful engagement.
Students are encouraged—and supported—to create and lead their own CAS projects, from social campaigns and environmental actions to educational programs and artistic productions. These initiatives often become long-standing traditions and leave lasting marks on the school and city.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core pillar of the IB Diploma Programme and a cornerstone of the UWC educational experience. At UWC Mostar, CAS is not just a requirement—it’s a journey of exploration, reflection, and meaningful engagement.
Throughout their two-year journey, students are expected to:

Personal Growth & Wellbeing

CAS fosters holistic development by challenging students to step outside their comfort zones. Whether through creative expression, physical challenges, or serving others, students grow in resilience, self-awareness, and confidence.

Real-World Impact in a Unique Context

Located in a post-conflict city, UWC Mostar provides a powerful setting for service-based learning. Students interact directly with local organizations, schools, shelters, and community initiatives—gaining first-hand insight into peacebuilding, reconciliation, and civic responsibility.

Leadership & Initiative

Students are encouraged—and supported—to create and lead their own CAS projects, from social campaigns and environmental actions to educational programs and artistic productions. These initiatives often become long-standing traditions and leave lasting marks on the school and city.

Cross-Cultural Understanding

Working in diverse teams and engaging with the local community deepens students’ appreciation of different perspectives and cultures. CAS at UWC Mostar is an exercise in bridge-building, both literally and metaphorically.

Example CAS Projects & Opportunities

  • “Erase the Hate”: A student-led campaign challenging discrimination through art and dialogue
  • TEDxUWCiM: A platform where students bring global and local voices together
  • Peer Support (MOPS): Students offering mentoring and emotional support to peers
  • Volunteering: With local kindergartens, orphanages, dog shelters, and elderly homes
  • Climbing & Outdoor Leadership: Building trust, teamwork, and survival skills in Bosnia’s mountains

  • Environmental Action: From Mostar’s riverbanks to sustainable gardening

Students are guided by the CAS Coordinator and mentors, who help them reflect meaningfully and ensure a balance between initiative and accountability. Documentation and reflections are managed through ManageBac, which helps students stay on track and celebrate their growth.
