Professional Development Workshops for Language and Visual Arts Teachers Held at UWC Mostar
This past weekend, UWC Mostar hosted a series of professional development workshops for teachers of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian language and literature, as well as Visual Arts. The events were organized as part of a broader initiative by the Center for Professional Development of Teachers, bringing together educators from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In total, 21 language and literature teachers from six cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, along with 4 Visual Arts teachers from three cantons of the Federation, took part in the program.
The workshops were led by UWC Mostar educators Tanja Čvoro, Ivan Šunjić, Maja Abadžija, Saša Šantić, and Enes Žuljević.
• Language and Literature teachers focused on “Methods and Procedures in Teaching the Mother Tongue (Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian)”, exploring strategies for effective assessment and ways to support student progress.
• Visual Arts teachers engaged with the theme “Assessing Success in the Visual Arts: What, How, and Why?”, exchanging perspectives on evaluation methods and their impact on student learning.
Over two days, participants shared experiences, reflected on their classroom practices, and enhanced their professional skills through interactive sessions and collaborative discussions. The workshops emphasized the importance of ongoing professional development and highlighted the value of building a network of educators committed to innovation and excellence.
What Participants Said:
• “A modern student is looking for modern methods. And analyses. The exchange of experiences and new ideas, the lecture was exceptional and the workshop on examples confirmed it. Ivan is an experienced, interesting and up-to-date lecturer.” — Rahima Balta
• “The professional development was interactive, and we can use the content from the training in our work.” — Irena Gudelj
• “Relaxed atmosphere, new acquaintances and experiences, good teachers.” — Elma Bečević
UWC Mostar extends gratitude to all participants and lecturers for their commitment and enthusiasm. We look forward to future collaborations that will continue strengthening education for students across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
