Residential life
Residential life
Residential life at UWC Mostar is an integral part of the student experience, fostering a sense of belonging, independence, and intercultural understanding. The 5 residences at UWC Mostar vary in size and are spread throughout the city, each with its own character and atmosphere. Our residential community offers students a unique opportunity to live and learn in the heart of Mostar. From shared meals and late-night conversations to collaborative study sessions and cultural celebrations, life in the residences balances comfort with responsibility. Guided by dedicated residential staff, students learn to navigate daily life together – developing empathy, resilience, and a deep appreciation for community living that extends far beyond their time at UWC Mostar.

MEJDAN RESIDENCE
Opened in 2014, Mejdan is the first residence owned by UWC Mostar. It’s located on the eastern side of the city, near the iconic Old Bridge. With a cozy community of just 27 students, Mejdan is about a 10-minute walk from the school.

ŠANTIĆ RESIDENCE
Inaugurated in the 2020/2021 academic year, Šantić is just a short walk from the school. It features student rooms, housefellow apartments, common and study spaces, and even a gym. Šantić is also proud to be the first Eco-certified building in Mostar, earning international recognition for its sustainable design.
Šantić – The Heart of It All
Welcome to Šantić, the biggest and busiest of all UWC Mostar residences – a place that somehow manages to feel both lively and homey at the same time. Because everyone passes through Šantić at some point, it’s often called the heart of the residences – and we wear that title proudly.
Our doors are always open. Whether it’s for a study session, a movie night, or just a good laugh, friends from every corner of UWC Mostar find their way here. Yet, even with all that movement and energy, we’ve built a real community within these walls – one that feels like family.
Life at Šantić is never dull. The smell of something baking usually fills the kitchen (cookies, banana bread, or someone’s experiment gone right), and it’s only a matter of time before a spontaneous card game breaks out around the big table. The laughter, the friendly banter, and the late-night conversations create the kind of warmth that makes even the biggest residence feel small in the best possible way.
Despite being right in the middle of everything, Šantić has its quiet corners too – perfect for studying, journaling, or just taking a moment to breathe. But most of all, it’s a place where everyone belongs, where friendships are made over shared meals and silly jokes, and where the door is always open – both literally and in spirit. Šantić isn’t just a residence. It’s a crossroads, a kitchen that never sleeps, and a community that feels like home.
Pellegrino – Where Comfort Meets Community
Lovingly called Pelle by our students, Pellegrino Residence is a cozy and character-filled home located right on the charming Fejićeva pedestrian street. Just steps away, you’ll find everything you might need — supermarkets, cafés, pharmacies, salons, banks… You name it. City life is right at your doorstep, but inside Pelle, things slow down in the best possible way.
Our common room — once a hotel restaurant — is now the heart of the residence. It’s filled with books, comfy couches, and warm lighting, making it the perfect spot to sip tea, read, or unwind. In the evenings, the room transforms into a mini cinema, with nightly film screenings on the big screen that everyone’s welcome to join. When the mood is right, games of cards and laughter often take over the space.
Need to focus? There’s plenty of quiet space to study, and a fully equipped kitchen nearby for coffee breaks and study snacks. And when the sun is out, our rooftop terrace offers breathtaking views of the Old Town—a favorite spot for both early morning journaling and golden hour hangouts.
Pellegrino has a soul. It’s not too big, not too small — taman, as the locals would say. Whether you’re an introvert looking for peace or an extrovert chasing connection, Pelle offers a little something for everyone.
Polonia – Home away from Home
Polonia, one of the 5 UWC Mostar residences, is a cozy residence where students feel at home. It is their safe nest, away from the school, exams, and away from city noise. It is a space where strangers become your second family.
First stop before entering residential rooms is Polonia’s kitchen, where all kinds of magical, worldly tastes can be experienced with a lot of love for cooking, a lot of joyful laughter for and about life that is starting, and with a bit of messiness here and there that is always solved by cleaning champs.
Polonia’s rooms to a stranger’s eye may seem small, but within a few days, magic happens, with a few photos, posters, and paintings, a blanket or a pillow from home, roommates create their shared safe space where they can recharge and heal.
The upstairs way takes you to Polonia’s common room, the space where friendships are born over midnight tea, the quiet corner where you sit with your thoughts while the world gently hums outside, and at the same time is also a space where laughter bounces off the walls, calling house parents to remind students of the silent time rule. 🙂
Even if you’re shy, you’re never truly alone in Polonia — there’s always someone in the common room, kitchen, garden, or hallway ready with a smile.
Mejdan – Where the Old Town Meets Home
Welcome to our coziest (and tiniest) residence — right in the heart of Mostar’s Old Town!
Yes, we’re surrounded by tourists, souvenir shops, and the smell of fresh coffee drifting from every corner — but somehow, our house stays a little island of peace in all that chaos.
Students like to say it has “the real homey vibes” — and they’re right. It’s the kind of place where you walk in and instantly feel like you belong. Someone’s always cooking something delicious, the kettle’s always on, and there’s usually laughter coming from the common room.
It’s small enough that everyone knows everyone (and probably what they had for breakfast), but that’s exactly what makes it special. Cozy rooms, warm people, and the heart of the Old Town just outside your door — what more could you ask for?
Novi Sušac – Small house, big heart
Welcome to Novi Sušac, the coziest corner of UWC Mostar. Novi is small in size, far from the city rush, but full of good vibes and friendly faces. Our color is blue, and our mascot is a duck, which perfectly embodies our spirit, laid back but friendly.
While Novi might be the smallest and the furthest, it also has the warmest heart. Hidden in a peaceful neighborhood, with a beautiful view from the top balcony, it’s more than just a residence. Novi truly feels like a home.It may take a few extra minutes to reach us, and many of our students choose to come by bike, electric scooter, or simply enjoy a peaceful walk. But once you arrive, you instantly feel at home. Our cozy common spaces offer peace, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have fun.
The well-equipped baking corner invites students to share their recipes and enjoy an occasional sweet together, while the shared spaces create that true family atmosphere. Don’t let Novi’s small size trick you. Our rooms are known to be among the coziest at UWC Mostar, with semi-private layouts and private bathrooms that make this place feel uniquely warm and welcoming. Come and see for yourself what makes Novi Sušac such a special place to call home.
