In Memoriam Dr. Samir Kopačić

It is with deep sorrow we remember Samir Kopačić, a dear student of the first generation of UWC Mostar and a gifted scientist and innovator at the University of Graz.Born in Gračanica, Samir graduated from UWC Mostar in 2008 and went on to study Technical Chemistry and Process Engineering at TU Graz. Even during his time at UWC Mostar, he stood out for his passion for science and experimentation—an early spark that guided him toward an academic and research path.At the Institute for Biobased Products and Paper Technology, Samir led the innovative PapSpray project, developing biodegradable films and coatings for paper packaging—from cereal boxes to cosmetics—as sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based synthetics.In 2020, his groundbreaking work was recognized with the prestigious Heinzel-Mondi-Sappi Award for Young Researchers.Beyond his professional achievements, Samir was a devoted husband and father to a young daughter. We extend our deepest condolences to Samir’s family and friends.
