Celebrating Europe Day 2025: Youth Vision – Mapping Europe’s FutureAs a part of the Europe Day 2025 celebrations, UWC Mostar had the honour of hosting the event “Youth Vision: Mapping Europe’s Future” in partnership with the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This inspiring gathering brought together ambassadors from several EU Member States and students from UWC Mostar for a unique, intergenerational dialogue on Europe—its past achievements, present challenges, and future aspirations. We were privileged to welcome a distinguished delegation of guests, including: • H.E. Luigi Soreca, Ambassador of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina • H.E. Age Sandal Møller, Ambassador of Denmark • H.E. Helena Lagerlöf, Ambassador of Sweden• H.E. Ioanna Efthymiadou, Ambassador of Greece • H.E. Anton Păcuraru, Ambassador of Romania, accompanied by Mrs. Mariana Păcuraru • H.E. Damijan Sedar, Ambassador of Slovenia • Mr. Josef Zrzavecký, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Czech RepublicThis event served as a dynamic platform for young people to reflect on their role in shaping the Europe they envision—one that is open, inclusive, democratic, and resilient. In an engaging and informal setting, students had the rare opportunity to converse directly with EU diplomats about the issues that matter most to them. Topics explored included mobility, democratic participation, quality education, green transition, and social justice—not merely as policies, but as tangible experiences and collective ambitions. At UWC Mostar, we are proud to nurture global citizens ready to lead with empathy, courage, and a strong sense of purpose. Events like this reaffirm the importance of youth voices in building a future Europe that lives up to its ideals.Europe House ... See MoreSee Less

Welcoming Baden-Badener UnternehmergesprächeWe were honoured to welcome representatives from Baden-Badener Unternehmergespräche (BBUG), who visited Mostar and invited our delegation to present the history of Mostar, mission of UWC Mostar, and the impactful experiences of our students. We were also joined by our wonderful UWC NC Germany representatives Dajana and Daniel.BBUG plays a vital role in fostering dialogue between business and society and deeply value the opportunity for exchange with young people. As a part of their ongoing mission to cultivate future leadership, the visit provided a meaningful platform for students and German industry leaders to engage in thoughtful conversations about current challenges and the future of the Balkan region.Founded in 1955, BBUG has hosted over 150 conferences in Baden-Baden and 300 international events, making it one of Germany’s most established institutions for leadership development. Provide a homey atmosphere for UWC Mostar students during scheduled academic breaks. Through this volunteer program, families welcome students into their homes for a night, a weekend or for a longer break. For students, it’s a respite from residence studies and a chance to develop close relationships with BiH families.
Leadership transition- interviews with former and new HOC
As Sonia steps down from her role as Head of College at UWC Mostar, she reflects on a journey filled with support, gratitude, and personal growth. While handing over the leadership to Hendrik, she looks forward to reconnecting with the community in a new capacity, carrying forward her dedication to the mission of UWC Mostar.
Entering the Mostar Gimnazija in 2006, our school building was still partly in ruin from a war that had ended only a decade before. Now, after more than twenty years of peace, UWC Mostar stands as a bright model for post-conflict education and reconciliation. Though national divisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina persist — we are still the only school in the country where Bosniak, Croat, and Serb youth live and go to school together — the college has affirmatively grounded itself in our community. And with nearly 200 students from 72 countries, staff from 10 countries, and with 1098 alumni all around the world, the global family of UWC Mostar grows year by year.
We learn in Mostar through late night talks in rooms, on walks from residence to school, sharing coffee with refugees in service activities, collecting oral histories for Balkan Studies projects, in buses traveling around the region for project weeks and, of course, through inspiring classes that aim to reimagine our relationships with facts and ideas that shape these worlds outside the classroom. While the International Baccalaureate forms the foundation for academics, any UWC Mostar student will tell you that the intellectual and emotional growth you undergo here cannot be contained by the IB. We are committed to the fact that learning takes place in the everyday.
At UWC Mostar, the city is our campus, and our campus is the city. Unique amongst UWCs, our students and staff live all around the city of Mostar. We share our main school building with the Mostar Gimnazija, one of the best secondary schools in the country. Our cultural performances are held in a city youth center. Teachers and students meet in local coffee shops to discuss academics and plan the community festivals we host for the community. Music at the Sarajevo Jazz Festival are a short bus ride away. Integration and engagement are essential practices, core to our daily existence.
